A NOTE FROM OUR PTO PRESIDENT

Happy Fall MACS families,

Welcome to the 2nd edition of The Weekly Wave!

We’ve loved hearing your positive feedback and are excited to bring you another week of news, reminders, and updates. Here are 5 things to know for this week:

  1. Our September meeting minutes are posted below! If you weren't able to join us, take a few minutes to give them a read and catch up on what you missed. It's an easy way to stay in the loop on what's happening with PTO!

  2. Fall Picture Days are this week! VPK-2nd grade will be on Thursday, October 1st, and 3rd-7th grade will be on Friday, October 2nd. Students, dress to impress, and parents, don’t forget to order your pictures!

  3. Volunteer Opportunities: We are looking for volunteers to help at our booth for the Micanopy Fall Festival! We will be offering face painting and selling swag. Please sign up through Parent square if you are interested. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some volunteer hours.

  4. Donations: We are asking for candy donations for our trunk at Micanopy Trunk or Treat!  All candy must be individually wrapped.  Please drop off your donations at the front office by Friday, October 23rd.

  5. Library Loop with Ethan: Are you or your child(ren) looking for a new book to sink your teeth into? Check out this week’s book recommendations!

Kindness Challenge

Did you know that being kind isn't just good for others it makes you feel happier too?

It’s true! When we share a smile, say a kind word, hold a door, or help someone with
their backpack, our brains release Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin, and Endorphins aka
“happy chemicals” that make us feel warm inside.

Kindness is super powerful! It can create a chain reaction, it helps build friendships, and
it makes our school feel more like a family.
This month, we have a list of different ways. You can be kind to the people in your life.

1. Clean up a mess that you didn’t make
2. Play with a new friend at recess
3. Give someone a compliment
4. Ask your teacher if they need help with anything around the classroom

Meet Ethan from the Micanopy Library!

Hi! I’m Ethan, I’m 27, and I’m originally from South Florida. After nearly a decade in New
England, I moved back to Florida and settled in Gainesville to pursue my goal of working in
public libraries.

I’ve lived in Alachua County for about two years and joined the Public Library District in
February as the Youth Programmer at the Micanopy Branch.
I create and lead programs and events for ages 0–18, while also helping with the everyday library duties like shelving, holds, checkouts, and assisting patrons.

I also enjoy getting out into the community through library outreach, including visiting MACS for reading activities and attending local events. I’m excited to be part of the Micanopy community and look forward to seeing you around!

support our students and staff. Getting involved is a fantastic way to stay connected,
