Policy and Procedures:

If your student becomes ill, it is often appropriate to keep him/ her home from school. An ill student will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other students and staff. Students should not come to school, if he or she has:

  • Flu-like symptoms: headache, fever, sore throat, runny and/ or stuffy nose, cough, feeling “bad.”
  • Strep Throat: student must be taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours, before returning to school.
  • A bad cold: a very runny nose or a bad cough that keeps the student awake at night, for example.
  • Excessive cough that disrupts classroom learning.
  • Multiple bouts of diarrhea in the past 24hours.
  • Multiple bouts of vomiting in the past 24hours.
  • Pink Eye: student must use antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours, before returning to school.
  • Rash: for all unidentified rashes and/ or skin conditions, the student will not be permitted to return to school until they receive a diagnosis from a licensed health care provider. The student must have a note from the licensed health care provider, to return to school.

Return to School After Illness:

  • They are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication), and their current temperature is under 100.4 F
  • They have no symptoms of vomiting/ diarrhea
