Welcome Future 2nd graders!!!

We look forward to seeing all of you in August. Until then, we hope that everyone is having a great summer and keeping your bodies and brains active.

End of the 2024-2025 School Year

We’re in the final stretch, counting down the days until summer! Here are some important dates:

  • May 26 – Memorial Day – No school!
  • May 30 – Field Day & Early Release at 1:00pm
  • June 2 – 2nd Grade Bridging Ceremony at 11:15am - 12:15pm & Early Release at 1:00pm
  • June 3 – Last Day of School & Early Release at 1:00pm

Current 2nd graders: remember to keep an eye out for Summer Slide information on the third grade webpage to keep learning on track throughout the summer!

 

Avoid the Summer Slide

When we return to MACS in August, students who complete one of the three activities listed below can attend a FABULOUS celebration!

  • Get a grown up to help you track your iReady minutes on a piece of paper. The student must complete 2 hours a week or 18 hours total for the summer to successfully complete the “Summer Slide Challenge”. Bring back the signed log the first week of school.
  • Summer of Smart 50 Day Challenge – Incoming 2nd graders for the 2024 – 2025 school year must complete at least 75 points from the 1st -2nd Grade Packet. Packets should be returned the first week of school. You can download and print the packet here.
  • Purchase a workbook like Evan-Moor’s Daily Summer Activities for 1st Graders Going to 2nd Grade. This workbook is available for purchase online for $10.00 using the link below. Students must complete the workbook and bring it back the first week of school.

Summer Activities at the Micanopy Library

Summer at the Library Reading Program begins on June 1. Pre-register beginning June 3 using Beanstack , then track your reading and summer fun for chances to win prizes, including a tablet from PDQ Restaurant along with weekly prizes from Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Register online or at any Alachua county library location. When you register for Summer at the Library, participants of all ages will receive a tote bag containing giveaway items, while supplies last. Children (ages 0-11) and teens (ages 12-17) will also receive a free book, while supplies last.

  • Saturday, June 28, 11:00am – 12:00pm – Bats at the Library
  • Saturday, July 12, 3:00 – 4:00pm – Making Moosic with Anna Moo
  • Tuesday, Jully 22, 11: 00am – 12:00pm – Snapology (Minecraft Gaming)
  • Saturday, August 2, 2:00 – 3:00pm – Fun with Clay
  • Thursday, August 7, 3:00 – 4:00pm – Science Surprises: Engineering Scientist Tools

Alachua county libraries have many programs throughout the summer like magic, reptiles, space, and dogs doing tricks. Check out programs at other libraries.

Other Free Summer Activities for Kids

  • Harn Museum of Art: open daily (Gainesville)
  • Appleton Museum of Art: FREE on the FIRST SATURDAY of each month (Ocala)
  • Splash Pad at Citizen’s Circle (Ocala)
  • Splash Pad at Depot Park (Gainesville) – There are many free activities at Depot Park each week!!
  • Register your kids to bowl 2 games free all summer
  • Family Fishing Days are held once each month at the UF/IFAS fishing ponds. The dates for this summer are June 15 and July 20. They have loaner poles and bait (cut up hotdogs and beef liver) available, but everyone is welcome to bring their own equipment and bait. Follow this link for the address and other fishing dates.
